The end of a Journey
Unfortunately, this is where the Route 66 part of the trip ends. We got up early in the morning, and drove back to San Diego to make our flight. It was a little difficult making sure we got all the instruments on the plane - we could only take so many carry-ons, and we needed all of the most crucial pieces so we could perform back in Chicago. The Cieremans (David's parents) were driving the van back from California with all of the equipment that wouldn't fit on the plane, but they wouldn't get back until those performances were over. So we had to rely on the equipment that was still at my house in Chicago, which was originally from New Jersey. Aaahh, my brain hurts! But it all worked out in the end. When we drove up to the door and unloaded the instruments, I felt proud of our accomplishments. We got to Chicago safely (it was my first time flying Southwest, and it was a good flight) and headed home. But not without testing the nocturnal activities of James Werner. In a series of very scientific tests, David managed to make James think he was eating a peppermint patty . . . without ever waking up. Aaah, the things we do when we are bored on a 4 hour plane flight. Anyway . . . On the way back home, everyone was replaying the events of the last 10 days in their heads. I couldn't believe it was over. But never fear! We still have a few more performances before David and James head home - I'll blog those too.
